The Storied History of Dillingham Airfield - Dillingham Airfield, originally known as Mokuleia Airfield, was constructed during World War II as a military airstrip. It was part of the broader defense network designed to protect the Hawaiian Islands from potential threats. Situated on the picturesque North Shore, the airfield played a crucial role during the war, serving as a base for military operations and training exercises. After the war, the airfield was renamed Dillingham Airfield in honor of Captain Henry Gaylord Dillingham, a local hero who lost his life during the conflict.
