Honeycomb Aeronauticals Alpha Flight Controls ist eines der fortschrittlichsten Steuerhörner, das gegenwärtig für die Flugsimulation am PC zur Verfügung steht. Es wurde konzipiert, um den Anforderungen von Flugsimulator-Nutzern, aber auch von Flugschülern und Piloten zu entsprechen. Alle internen Komponenten sind in Luftfahrt-Qualität gefertigt und bieten mit einer realistischen Ergonomie ein wirklichkeitsgetreues Flugerlebnis.

Die hochwertige Mechanik bietet für die Querrudersteuerung einen realistischen vollen 180°-Drehwinkel mit einem selbstzentrierenden Mechanismus ohne Totzone. In Längsrichtung erlaubt die Stahlwelle einen Bewegungsraum von 15 cm. Der Mechanismus ist vollständig aus Metall gefertigt und gewährleistet so eine lange Haltbarkeit.

Das Yoke verfügt über ein Schalter-Panel mit Batterie- und Alternator-Schalter, Avionik-Hauptschalter sowie Lichtschaltern. Es ist mit einer roten LED-Hintergrundbeleuchtung ausgestattet, sodass es auch nachts gut bedienbar ist. Ebenfalls vorhanden ist ein Zündschalter, wie er bei Kolbenmotorflugzeugen üblich ist.

Am linken Griff befinden sich zwei Tasten, zwei 2-Wege-Hat-Switches und eine Push-to-Talk-Taste, während der rechte Griff über zwei weitere 2-Wege Hat-Switches, einen 8-Wege-Rundblickschalter sowie eine Taste verfügt.

Dank einer passenden Halterung sind die Alpha Flight Controls sowohl mit Honeycomb- als auch mit Saitek-Produkten kompatibel. Die enthaltene Treiber- und Konfigurationssoftware hält individuelle Profileinstellungen für verschiedene Flugzeuge bereit und ist mit Windows und macOS kompatibel.

"Das AFC macht einen stabilen Eindruck. Selbst bei dauerhafter und stärkerer Belastung sollte es problemlos viele Jahre halten.

Das Gerät bietet viel für wenig(er) Geld. Rund 250 Euro plus Versandkosten sind für das Gebotene angemessen. Das Yoke ist etwa im Vergleich mit dem YOKO+ (siehe Seite 9), der komplett aus Metall besteht und 1.200 Euro plus Porto kostet, eine Budgetlösung, die zwar Kompromisse eingeht, aber mit einiger Sicherheit beziehungs- und familienverträglich ist.

"Although this isn’t a long term tested review of the Honeycomb Alpha Flight Controls unit, I can say for now that I’m so happy with this GA aircraft flight controls unit. And yes, you can use it of course with any other aircraft, preferable only aircraft that doesn’t use/equipped with a flight stick.

I can conclude that the Honeycomb Flight Controls unit is a heavy duty unit, a stiff mounting plate that can also be connected to the table with the 3M Micro-Suction and believe me, it works! When you use the clamps, you could use it also in combination with the 3M Micro-Suction, but there’s actually no need for.
